Rob Stewart accomplished so much in his life, but there’s still more to do. To honour Rob’s memory, the Stewart family is collecting donations in order to continue his conservation work. You can help by visiting robstewartsharkwaterfoundation.org. A tax receipt will be issued.
Rob has had such an impact on my life. More then anyone in my 47 years so far. I have never met you, but felt a bond simply by the love we both share for sharks and the ocean. Thank you Rob, for having done so much for one of the most misunderstood creatures on this beautiful planet.
RIP, you and your work will be greatly missed.
Godspeed, dear man. GBNF.

As a commercial Diver and graduate of Marine Biology I followed Rob’s work with anticipation. I am sad for the family for their loss…
Sharkwater, Rob and his relentless passion for this planet forever changed my life. Before seeing his movie – i was always afraid of sharks and never realized how beautiful they are and how important they actually are to our ecosystem/humanity. After watching it, I had this immense respect for Rob and the ocean as a whole. I couldn’t really get the images i had seen out of my mind. I immediately began trying to learn more about sharks and have always kept this documentary in the back of my mind; admiring so much of what Rob did for our planet. So incredibly sad to hear the planet has lost one of its most impassioned fighters and activists, but his legacy will forever live on. Knowledge is power – protect our oceans and its living inhabitants <3 Thank you Rob!
My condolences to all of Mr. Stewart’s family and friends. The ocean is a healthier place, and the world is a better place thanks to him.
As a lifelong naturalist, I had always been perfectly interested in sharks, but ‘Sharkwater’ opened a totally new door to their fascinating lives. It also served as a critical reminder of how much sharks need our help in order to conserve the ecological integrity of the oceans.
My favourite shark memory is seeing a group of about 10 Black-tipped Sharks feeding at daybreak near Turtle Cove, Santa Cruz in the Galápagos Islands. It was an ethereal moment, and the knowledge and inspiration I had gained from having seen ‘Sharkwater’ enriched this experience immensely.
It’s amazing how much a person we’ve never met can impact our lives for the better.

Rob Stewart was one of the nicest people I have ever met. He always had a smile on his face. I respected what he was doing about sharks being killed for no valid reason. He was a very caring person & he will be missed by all the people that new him. My thoughts are with his family. RIP Rob.
Thank you for all your selfless work to save the oceans. Your legacy will live on forever. You did so much and will not be forgotten.
RIP Rob. You are a hero to many, myself included. Thank you for for your endless efforts in raising awareness across the globe of oceanic and aquatic life and that sharks specifically are beautiful, magnificent creatures who are an integral part of the oceans, and for not solely portraying them as monstrous killing machines as so many choose to do. I have been a shark “finatic” all my life and you got to do what you loved for a living, all the while educating and re-opinionating millions of people. Thank you. RIP good sir.
my deepest and sincere condolences go out to Rob’s family and friends. Words cannot express what a big loss his passing means for his loved ones and also those who supported him and what he did.
From the bottom of my heart: I’m so sorry! He will not be forgotten, his achievements will remain forever.
My thoughts are with you.

I only heard of sharkwater a month ago and was astonished by what Rob had uncovered.
I’ve always had a spot for conservation but sharkwater made me contact more action about protecting the seas.
Robs death was a shock to me as I feel I was only just getting to know him and his work.
He will be missed but he and his work will never be forgotten.
I’ve been talking with a lot of people about why I love Rob Stewart so much. He honestly changed the way I think about what I do…. I had the opportunity to watch him speak in Calgary and met him afterwards. I asked him how he stayed so positive in the face of such overwhelming hopelessness, I can’t remember exactly what he said but he really moved me to change the way I think. At that time I was really frustrated and depressed – I was thinking of stopping what I was doing…when you put your heart into so many causes it constantly takes a beating – getting up the next day and taking that first step gets harder and harder. Compassion fatigue is brutal.
Rob was so positive and I took his lessons and applied it in my own life. No you can’t save them all but if you can save one, or if you can change one mind you’ve changed the world in a positive way. Although his time on this planet that he loved so much was short his legacy and influence will be felt for all time.
Rest well Rob, we’ll miss you.
Rob Stewart was a hero in the eyes of many. he stood against the stereotype of JAWS and showed people what sharks are really like. As someone who has always loved the ocean (and who is an activist), i was intrigued by Rob and his passion. His legacy will live on. It will live on through myself and every person he inspired to help our planet. My heart goes out to everyone who had the honor to know him personally. Rob changed the world. Now, it’s up to all of us to continue the work he loved so much. Love and light to all <3 #FinFree
